According to legend, Ariadne was a beautiful and intelligent woman, and became famous for helping Theseus kill the Minotaur, a monster that lived in the labyrinth of Knossos on the island of Crete. Ariadne is often associated with themes of love and betrayal, and her story is often interpreted as a metaphor for the struggle of man against his own emotions and his difficulty in managing his feelings.
